The farming industry has been improved greatly in recent years, thanks to the use of heavy farm equipment in doing farm work. these machines have been made purposely for commercial/large scale farming and backyard gardening. Our focus today is on the commercial/large scale farming. The following are some common farming machines and their uses.
1 Tractor
Farmers know how meticulous choosing farm equipment’s can be from the type of equipment’s to be used and to the prices of each. However, there is one farm equipment which is definitely essential in every farm setting. And this is the humble tractor.
The tractor has been considered the “king” of the farm because of its many uses and its versatility. Every farm has to have a tractor if they want their farm work to be easier and finish faster.
The main use of a tractor is to draw or pull machines such plough, harvesters etc. in order for them to execute the tasks they are meant for. So basically, machines that cannot propel or move themselves are mostly attached to tractor. A tractor can also be used to haul trailers to be used for agricultural purposes. Surprisingly, tractors can also be used to power machines that cannot power themselves.
- Agricultural Sprayer
As implicit from the name, this type of farm equipment is used for applying liquid substances such as insecticides, pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers and any other products meant to be sprayed on the farm or plants. It is available in various types. Some of the types include agricultural aircraft-sprayer and blowers-prayer. Liquid or powdered insecticides or pesticides can be sprayed using this type of machines. It is also possible to use some sprayers to water the farm.
- COMBINE HARVESTER
The combine harvester or combine is a versatile machine designed to efficiently harvest a variety of crops. The name derives from its combining separate harvesting operations: reaping, threshing, and winnowing into a single process. Among the crops harvested with a combine are corn (maize), sorghum, soybeans, flax (linseed), sunflowers and canola
Planter or Seeder
After the land has been tilled or cultivated, Seeders and planters are used for the sowing of the seeds or planting of the crops. With this machine, a lot of seeds or crops can be planted within few hours.
Seeding machines and planting machines share many similarities. Seeders (sometimes called drills) and planters, regardless of type, operate in the same basic fashion. Knowing this information can help you to spot areas where your equipment can run more efficiently.
5. Field Cultivator
As the name already tells you, this machine is specifically meant for cultivating the farm or making the soil softer for planting. It can also be used to get rid of weeds or to aerate or make the soil softer shortly after the crops have started to germinate. Cultivators are very helpful in farming especially in this modern age. Hardened soils are made softer for easy penetration of nutrients and water.
6. Plough
It is specifically meant for ploughing the soil before the seeds are sowed or crops are planted. The make the earth softer so that the root of the crops planted can penetrate the soil in search of nutrients.
