The Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA) has visited three (3) exporters of farm produce in the Awutu Senya East Municipality as part of its regular shipper outreach exercise and also identify challenges affecting the operations of exporters.
The move, which forms part of the GSA’s mandate, helps in formulating programs and policies to promote export.
The farms visited are 2K Farms and UniFruits Limited in Bawjiase, as well as Jei River Farms at Ofaakor.
Produce from the three farms are mainly perishable fruits such as pineapples, mangoes, pawpaw, and passion fruits, among others.
The exporters expressed concern over air cargo availability and capacity for perishable goods, freighter requirements, and export financing, among others.
They bemoaned the adverse impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their business which escalated freight costs and reduced their margins.
A Principal Officer with the Shipper Services and Trade Facilitation Department of the GSA, Roy Adibi, used the occasion to sensitise the exporters on the mandate of the authority and assured them of the authority’s resolve to provide solutions to their challenges.
