To address the hike in food prices, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) intends to establish food retail outlets in the country’s food hub towns.
According to the Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, The MOFA retail shops are necessary because majority of middlemen purchase farm products at lower rates at farm gates and resell them there for higher prices.
Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, explained that the rises in fuel prices, fertilizer and chemicals are beyond government’s control.
He claimed that some people had sharply raised their food prices, which he deemed inappropriate, considering the continued economic hardship.
He said that his Ministry has plans to establish specific food retail outlets in the nation’s food hub towns in order to reduce the increase in food prices.
Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto commented on the rise in fertiliser prices by saying that they have no influence over the rules set by the global market.
