The Adentan Municipal Chief Executive, NiiNoi Alexander Adumuah has called on residents to take charge of the tree seedlings they planted in their homes and vicinities during the Green Ghana project in a bid to preserve the environment and depleted forest reserves.
Mr. Adumuah added that the seedlings should be raised until they are fully grown in order to lessen the consequences of climate change and enhance the beauty of the environment.
Regarding the method of distribution, Mr. Adumuah said that over 2000 seedlings were given to the Adentan community, 200 seedlings were given to the Muslim communities in Commandos, 800 seedlings were given to the traditional authorities in Mmai Momo and Frafraha, and over 1000 seedlings were given to non-governmental organizations and residents’ associations.
The Garden Department of the Assembly would strictly monitor the plants during the rainy and dry seasons to at least get the 98 percent growth target, he claimed, adding that more than 100 plants had been given to the Christ Faith Church and the driver’s unions to plant in their areas of operational responsibility.
It’s time, according to Mr. Adumuah, for Ghanaians to take corrective action to ensure that the nation maintains and regains its lost forest cover and other green places.
As part of the response to the president’s directive, he invited citizens to attend the assembly to register and select seedlings “so as to be part of the history-creating process.” He listed the species provided as including coconut, citrus, orange, mahogany, mangoes, and others.
