The Deputy Technical Manager in Charge of Operations at COCOBOD’s cocoa Health and Extension Division Dr Felix Kwame Appiah, on Wednesday, April 20 in a statement explained the abolishment of the COCOBOD scholarship. He mentioned that with the introduction of the free senior high school policy, the COCOBOD scholarship scheme for children of cocoa growers has been dissolved.
Since the establishment of the COCOBOD scholarship scheme almost 50 years ago, the program has assisted children of cocoa farmers in Ghana with their education. Hence, the introduction of the free senior high school has served the scholarship’s function, resulting in its cancellation.
The money raised for the COCOBOD scholarship will go toward the construction of model schools in cocoa-growing communities he said.
