Africa must take advantage of agric to develop continent – S.A High Commissioner

According to Grace Jeanet Mason, the South African High Commissioner in Ghana, agriculture is the new gold for the African continent in terms of achieving socio-cultural development.

Mrs. Jeanet Mason said that Africans could cultivate more and export more by taking advantage of the continent’s many rivers and waterways, favourable weather, and improved seeds.

As part of her official tour to the region, the High Commissioner spoke to members of the Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) on Monday in Goaso.

She previously had a bilateral meeting in the office of the Ahafo Regional Minister, George Yaw Boakye, to go through potential investment prospects for the Republic of South Africa in Ahafo.

Mrs. Jeanet Mason, indicated that the goal of her visit was to improve the political, cultural, commercial, and economic ties between her nation and the Ahafo Region in order to speed up development.

She noted that, her entourage travelled by land from Accra to Goaso in order to admire the regions’s landscapes, rivers, sites, and scenes and to identify potential areas of cooperation.

”I have realised that Ghanaians especially the people of Ahafo Region, have the full potential and everything to farm in the large scale for feeding and export, to earn more foreign currency” she said.

Mrs Jeanet Mason disclosed that her country would cooperate with the Ahafo Region in the areas of trade, agriculture, health-related issues, particularly maternal care, and the empowerment of women and young people.

Ahafo Regional Minister, George Yaw Boakye, stated that he went to the South African Embassy in Accra to discuss the region’s development potential with the High Commission in order to attract financial and commercial investment.
