Greenglobe Ghana launches tree planting at Anfoega Tsebi

On Thursday, Organisation an environmental non-governmental organisation (NGO) Greenglobe Ghana commenced a tree-planting campaign at Anfoeta Tsebi in the Ho West District of the Volta Region.

The Sacred Fire Foundation in the United States is funding the project, which aims to transplant trees in degraded areas of the Wote Range.

Mr Samuel Deh, Chief Executive Officer of Greenglobe Ghana, voiced worry over the frequent destruction of the Wote forest by individuals, mainly hunters, at the exercise’s launch.

To maintain the forest, he suggested it was vital to mobilise people living along the range to plant economic trees like mahogany, ofram, and Wawa.

Mr Deh stated that afforestation is important to the tourism industry as well as the culture of the country, adding that “we need to continue with our education for communities to know the value of afforestation.”

“Such destructions have put forests and their habitats in jeopardy,” he said, citing climate change concerns as a result of a lack of forest reserve destruction.
Mr Deh was particularly concerned that illicit chainsaw operators were wreaking havoc on the environment and waterways.

He pleaded with the public to support environmental protection measures.

Mr Greshon Torde Amaglo, Forestry Commission Customer Service Manager, lauded the Sacred Fire Foundation for supporting the project, which he said would help safeguard the ecosystem and beautify the Wote Range.

He urged people to desist from illicit acts that harm the environment and to support efforts to protect the ecosystem.
