Entrepreneurship: Youth urged to venture into animal farming

The Acting General Manager, Agrihouse Foundation, Mr Michael Opuni Frimpong, has urged young people who have an interest in entrepreneurship to venture into the animal rearing value chain.

He claimed the industry was profitable and offered many opportunities for budding businesses, ranging from animal husbandry to trade in animal goods and feeds.

Mr Frimpong made the remarks on the sidelines of the Agrihouse Foundation’s 2022 Ghana Chicken Festival (GhaChick) in Accra.

The event brought together stakeholders from across the poultry value chain to showcase the importance of Ghana’s poultry sector.

Mr Frimpong suggested that they start their poultry company by keeping chickens in their backyard.

He said that animal husbandry was less expensive and required less capital than other business ventures.

“Often, when people decide to go into agriculture entrepreneurship they only think of crop farming and not animal rearing. Nonetheless, the latter has become a profitable venture where most youth could venture,” he said.

Mrs Akosua Kyerewaa, Executive Director of the Miss Agriculture Ghana Foundation, also urged young women to pursue careers in agricultural production, particularly poultry production.
