KIC launches fourth annual Business Booster Programme

The Kosmos Innovation Centre (KIC), a non-profit organization that invests in young entrepreneurs and small businesses has launched its Business Booster Program with talks from various panelists highlighting the need for food security and the role of Agri-MSMEs.
Speaking at the event that took place at the Africa Regent Hotel on May 5, 2022, Dr John Asafu-Adjaye, a Senior Fellow for the African Center for Economic Information, spoke on the importance of agriculture in a country like Ghana where it contributes to 20% of its GDP and employs 44% of its workforce.
A sector like this should be invested in as it is the backbone of the economy with one of the highest returns on investment. He also highlighted the fact that the agriculture sector was the only sector that saw growth during the Covid-19 pandemic.
With the state of the world in question due to climate change and environmental degradation, the Russia-Ukraine war brings about more uncertainty in the agriculture sector as Russia is responsible for 20% of the world’s fertilizer exportation.
He also mentioned many challenges including gender bias and access to credit that hamper productivity within the agricultural sector.
