V/R Minister lauds Afe home farms for engaging in mordern technology

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Letsa, has commended the Chief Executive Officer of Afe

Home Farms, Joe Ayivor, for his relentless drive at transforming one of the fastest growing poultry farms in the country.

According to him, we need to urge all poultry farmers to join hands in the region and collaborate to expand the poultry industry.

He said despite remarkable efforts by managers of Afe Home Farms, the region still needed many others to go into poultry farming.

Dr Letsa gave the commendation when he visited the Afe Home Farms at Sokode Gborgame in the Ho Municipality to acquaint himself with production processes and their challenges.

He commended the farm’s use of modern technology in poultry farming, Saying it was the first of its kind in the region”

“Mr Joe Ayivor has been doing a lot in the region to provide employment for the youth and we need to encourage him,” he stressed.

He noted that he had seen new technologies being used in the farm.

Dr Letsa noted that whatever the challenges were, the Volta Regional Coordinating Council was ready to support the farm.

He said the private sector remained the engine of growth for the country, as such government would continue to create a conducive environment for it to operate.

Mr Ayivor noted that the farm started in 2014 with eleven workers and said the whole farm had been mechanized with little manual work.

He stated that their challenges were the high cost of maize and soya beans to prepare feed for the birds which had more than doubled.

“Feed is a critical element in poultry farming. We cannot reduce the feed ration of the birds if they are to lay eggs every day,” he explained.

Mr Ayivor appealed to the government to construct the three-kilometre road to provide easy access to the farm.

He assured me that they have the capacity to meet the market demand for eggs and chicken products
