Commercial banks must increase support for agricultural sector – Agric Minister

The minister of agriculture,  Dr. Owusu Afriyi Akoto has bemoaned the attitude of financial institutions towards Ghana’s agriculture sector. According to the minister, banks in Ghana have not played their role in financing agriculture, a situation that has resulted in agribusinesses struggling to get funding.

“The banks have not helped us, and I keep saying that the commercial banks in this country have vacated agriculture and in spite of all the life that we put into the sector. They have just sat on the sideline watching us” he said.

To correct the situation, he disclosed that he has arranged a meeting for all the commercial banks to meet, with the President of Ghana in attendance, to present to them a case for consistent investment and funding of the agriculture sector.
