Government allocates GHS44M to help fight bird flu outbreak

The Ministry of Agriculture has disclosed that the government has allocated an amount of GHS44million to it enable it fight the bird flu outbreak in the country.

This was announced by the Sector Minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto today, Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at a presser.

Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto also disclosed that out of the allocated amount, GHS20 million has been released to the ministry.

He insisted that the timely release of the funds, will assist the ministry’s quest to fight the outbreak.

This, he added that explains the government’s resolve to curb the outbreak.

“In a bid curb the spread of the outbreak in our farms, the government has allocated an amount of GHS44million to assist in the fight against the disease and out of this amount, GHS20 million has been released to the ministry.”

Meanwhile the Acting Director of the Veterinary Services Directorate, Dr. Abeka also at the same presser disclosed that, GHS14 million of the released about (GHS20 million) will go into compensations.

According to him, the Ashanti Region will receive the biggest portion of the amount, followed by the Greater Accra and the Central Regions.

“About GHS14 million of the released amount will go into compensation of farmers. The Ashanti Region will have a bigger proportion of the compensation sum because of the nature of farms there followed by the Greater Accra Region, the Central Region and Western Region in that order.”
